I saw that subjects such as color, mass, space, volume, motion, and composition could not be understood in terms of a single value judgment and that, over time, readings can be interpreted in di erent ways. Today, however much I do prefer certain types of art and artists over others, I still try to understand all types of art and believe that there are no normative and universal values in art and culture.

Nevertheless, as my own art evolved, I came to realize that whatever the historical and social values and formal choices nourishing art, ultimately, wha
